WRAP launch designing out waste competition...
13th May 2009
The construction industry is the UK's largest user of natural resources, with 25 million tonnes of construction, demolition and excavation waste disposed to landfill each year. This has significant financial implications and impacts on the environment not only in the loss of natural resources, but also in carbon emissions from the manufacture and transport of wasted materials and their degradation in landfill.
Architects and designers can make a real difference in reducing this waste, by considering how their design decisions in the development of a project influence materials use and waste creation in construction.
WRAP has launched an International Open Ideas Competition to explore and develop the principles outlined in their Designing out Waste guide which can be found in the downloads section of our web site
Further details on how to enter this competition can be found at www.designingoutwaste.org.uk.
