Our D:MAX solution is recovering grit and rag from sludge streams in digester tanks, allowing Conhur to reuse the processed material and reduce the volume of their waste sent to landfill.

Conhur's largely a dewatering company, specialising in lagoon dewatering of sludges or municipal wastewater sludges in digester cleaning.

In the wastewater industry, solids are removed from wastewater in the form of sludge. A typical, conventional process that's used for this is Anaerobic Digestion to reduce the volume of the sludge. The problem with this process is that over time inert materials such as rag and grit, build up in the tank and therefore reduce the capacity of the tank.

So the digesters have always been an issue with grit and rag and we think now that we've probably got a really good solution from a cost perspective to the client and also to an upstream saving to our centrifuges and dewatering equipment. CDEnviro emailed us and sent us some information about their product and I guess we took a bit of a punt and got the technology into Australia.

The grit that is recovered has many resuses. Among the most common reuses are nutrient rich soil or composting additive, also backfill and pipe bedding. Also the biosolids created from the dewatering of the final effluent, have many uses in further biosolids applications.

With the D:MAX operational now, it has improved our throughput in the sense that originally when we were running just basically with the pumping straight to the balance tank, we were able to get only one truckload a day, now with the D:MAX we can get three to four truckloads per day.

The biggest gain that we've got from this machine is that when we've got to the sand and grit and digesters, we've normally had to mechanically remove it, i.e. kibbles and cranes or vacuum pumps, we do not now manually need to load skips.
