The need for soil remediation on contaminated land and has increased significantly due to increased knowledge around current and emerging contaminants as well as an ever increasing demand for urban housing. Brownfield sites and metal polluted hotspot areas are increasingly being used as locations for redevelopment opportunities.
The risk of contaminants leaching into water sources can lead to direct contamination of human drinking sources or lead to bioaccumulation of chemicals in animals which can eventually make their way into the food chain. Therefore, removing pollutants and contaminants in the soil is vital to ensure safety for humans and wildlife.
CDEnviro’s on-site equipment solutions wash and treat contaminated soil and sludges containing:
Soil washing offers a permanent remediation alternative for metal polluted sites. In addition, the washed out metals can be recovered from the leachate and re-introduced into the social material cycle instead of landfilled. CDEnviro utilise a suite of mechanical, chemical and biological processes for recovering washed solids such as sand and aggregates by transferring contaminants into the water phase which can then be effectively treated to produce recycled water for reuse within the process.
Our fully integrated solutions combine the soil treatment process with advanced tertiary water treatment systems to make the decontamination process as efficient and effective as possible.
Each solution we offer is bespoke to our customers' needs and we tailor them based on the tonnage and level of contamination in the soils to ensure maximum efficiency within every project we deliver.
Processed material can be disposed of relatively cheaply as non-hazardous material. Clean sand and gravel are recovered for re-use in applications like cement and concrete production. Recovered materials can be used in asphalt/road base which is what many of our customers are using their output materials for.
Having a recycling solution provided by CDEnviro reduces the demand for virgin materials and the subsequent costs associated with these. We believe that 'waste' should be seen as a valuable commodity and that materials can be re-purposed to create a circular economy.
By removing the majority of the contamination from the remediated land, the bulk fraction that remains can be recycled. The treated, clean soil is suitable for:
Overall, our systems provide savings on landfill charges, prevent extra investment in waste storage equipment, and introduce new materials for reuse.
